How to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 untethered with Redsnow 0.9.6

iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPod touch, and original iPad is now live! This jailbreak will require you to use redsn0w, which is available for both Windows and Mac OS X.

The iDevices supported are the iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1 (sadly no support for iPad 2 yet) Apple TV 2G and iPod touch 4G.

If your iPhone relies on a carrier unlock DO NOT PROCEED because ultrasnOw has not been updated for FW 4.3.1 yet. Please standby until it is released.

What you need?


  1. Connect your iDevice to iTunes. Choose your iDevice on the left and hold down the "shift" button on your keyboard and click the "Restore" button on iTunes.
    iTunes will ask you for the location of the firmware, choose the IPSW file.
    If your iPhone is already 4.3.1, please SKIP step 1.
  2. When iTunes has completed updating your iDevice to the firmware, launch the redSnOw.exe application. click on the "Browse" button. Choose the 4.3.1 firmware IPSW and hit "Open" button.

  3. RedSnOw will verify your IPSW file, please hit "Next" button after that.
  4. RedSnOw will now prepare the jailbreak data.
  5. Next you'll choose to install Cydia and redsn0w will walk you through how to place your device in DFU mode. Just make sure your iDevice is turned off and connected to your computer then click "Next" button.
  6. Follow the steps that are provided by RedSnOw to put your iDevice into DFU mode.
    1. Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.
    2. Without releaseing the Power button, also hold down the Home button for 5 seconds
    3. Without releaseing the Home button, release the Power button BUT KEEP holding the Home button for 13 seconds.
  7. After your iDevice reboots, RedSnOw will start uploading the new RAM disk to the Kernel.
  8. Once the status bar is full, RedSnOw will notify that its "Done!" Click the finish button and allow your iDevice to reboot.

When your iDevice is finished rebooting, it will be fully jailbroken with Cydia to start you off.
